Theacrine is an alkaloid structurally similar to caffeines, and is produced from caffeines in some plants. It is known to occur in high levels in the plant used for Kucha tea, since the plant can produce theacrine but theacrine itself is not further metabolized, resulting in theacrine accumulation.
